I loved The Condition and have been anxious for another book by Haigh. It makes me wonder how many good priests like Father John are also hurt by the ones who are obviously, not so good, and abused the faith their parishioners placed in them.Robyn Rylehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07510195754917893035noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5257036732683611349.post-71865521613495197362011-04-14T09:40:25.688-04:002011-04-14T09:40:25.688-04:00Ellen, it's true that Faith is a *little* more...Ellen, it's true that Faith is a *little* more plot driven than The Condition is, but if you're not already a fan of Haigh's work, I might suggest skipping this one. I think you might have the same reaction--not enough plot and not caring enough about the characters to continue reading. As the Crowe Flies and Readshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12110661562901480120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5257036732683611349.post-9484002831386257522011-04-14T08:08:01.264-04:002011-04-14T08:08:01.264-04:00Interesting review... I was so frustrated by the absence of a plot in that book - it seemed to me like the worst sort of product of MFA programs, well-constructed sentences but nothing behind them that made me want to read on or care about her characters. It's always good & interesting to read other viewpoints, so I'm gonna go check out your post on "The Condition" now.

-- EllenAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5257036732683611349.post-73067832847796389832011-04-13T08:21:54.324-04:002011-04-13T08:21:54.324-04:00Thanks for letting me know about the glitch, Monic...Thanks for letting me know about the glitch, Monica. I don't think it's a subject I'd be interested in reading - though I do read about dysfunctional families, the whole priest thing won't work for me.

I grew up in Catholic girl schools and with two atheist parents... :)

btw, in a feed Reader, your post comes out blank, because of using white text on your blog.
